LOMAG flux is recommended for the removal of unwanted magnesium from aluminium alloys. It is extremely effective in doing this at a variety of temperatures.
LOMAG flux decomposes when heated to 1292–1472ºF (700–800ºC) to release products which react preferentially with magnesium and remove it from the melt. Temperatures above 1382ºF (750°C) are recommended for best reactivity. LOMAG also has a slight fluxing action helping to clean the melt.
