Overflow Transfer System (OTS)

The overflow transfer system (OTS) is designed for transfer and delivery of molten metal from a melting furnace, at significantly lower transfer costs when compared to traditional transfer pumps and tapping-out.

OTS technology raises the metal by gently moving it from the bottom to the top of the transfer bowl. An integrated lightweight RFM® launder delivers this flowing metal for use by the downstream process.

Customers report that the OTS generates half the dross compared to traditional transfer pumps, with metal quality tests verifying improved metal quality. Additional customer advantages center on the low maintenance design of the system, with the graphite shaft assembly being the only consumable component. The system has no transfer pump posts to monitor and rebuild, no pump riser or transfer piping with their associated challenges of freezing, clogging, and ongoing maintenance and expense.

The system’s bowl is a durable, long-life single-piece refractory. The system’s graphite shaft assembly is an easily replaced low-cost consumable with the clamped motor design allowing for straight-up motor and shaft removal, leaving the bowl undisturbed in the transfer well.

The following bowl sizes are available with either air or electric drive systems and must be specified at the time of order. These options provide a workable design for practically any furnace.

  • 18 in (460 mm) OD with bowl lengths of 28, 34, 40 or 46 in (711, 864, 1016, 1168 mm)
  • 11.5 inh (292 mm) OD with bowl lengths of 22 or 28 in (559, 711 mm)

Advantages
  • Reduces metal turbulence associated with transferring or tapping out
  • Has no pump riser, pump posts, or piping associated with transfer pumps
  • Generate much less dross when compared to traditional pumps
  • Design and small footprint simplifies installation and minimizes any furnace modifications
  • Creates a safer way to transfer molten metal
  • Low consumable expenses
  • Significantly decreases time required to transfer metal compared to tapping-out
  • Easy shaft assembly replacement
  • Constant metal discharge flow rate with variable volume
  • Custom design can fit any application
  • Includes integrated lightweight RFM launder
  • Available with electric or air motor
