Pyrocast 82

Pyrocast 82 is a lightweight, fused silica based, highly insulating refractory product which offers resistance to molten aluminium erosion and thermal shock. It is non-wetting to aluminium and zinc alloys in molten metal transfer applications.  It offers the durability of materials with higher densities, but with the insulation value of a lightweight castable. This material is formulated to provide improved surface finishes in comparison to their fused silica products with similar densities.

It is supplied in precast shapes for items such as launders and other components used in the conveyance and casting of aluminium and its alloys.

APPLICATIONS

  • Launders
  • Casting table cross-sections
  • Distribution launders in slab ingot casting

ADVANTAGES

  • Non-wetting to molten aluminium
  • Smooth surface finish
  • Excellent durability
  • High insulating properties
  • Pre-fired
  • Low start-up shrinkage, dimensionally stable at working temperature
  • Resistant to thermal shock
