Pyroflux 330, 331
Reverb Furnace Wall Cleaning Flux for Magnesium and other Aluminium Alloys
Pyroflux 331
This is a very aggressive chloride-free wall cleaning flux. Its use is recommended as an initial wall cleaning with a change to Pyroflux 330 once the level of desired cleanliness is achieved. Pyroflux 331 has also proven to be an excellent bottom cleaning flux when injected under the metal surface.
Pyroflux 330
Pyroflux 330 is less aggressive and more refractory friendly compared to Pyroflux 331.
Pyroflux 330 and 331
These fluxes were developed to aid the operator in the removal of buildup around the metal line when hot cleaning reverberatory furnace walls. Metal splashing during operator activities increases this buildup.
The usual wall cleaning method is to use chipping tools to dislodge material buildup from the walls. This method typically causes additional buildup from splashing, and the method generally results in eventual destruction of the furnace lining. Flux application aids this cleaning cycle by “sweating” out the entrapped aluminum leaving the voids porous and sponge-like which makes the chipping job much easier and more refractory friendly.
Temperature Range
- The recommended temperature range for Pyroflux 330 is 1325–1375ºF (718–746ºC). When cleaning holding furnaces, Pyroflux 331 can still react even when temperatures go well below 1285ºF (696ºC).
Physical Properties and Product Blend
- Pyroflux 330 is a white powder flux containing sodium chloride and sodium silicofluoride.
- Pyroflux 331 is a cream-white powder flux, chloride-free, containing potassium sulfate and potassium silicofluoride.
