Pyroflux 310

Injectable Drossing Flux for Hypo-eutectic Aluminium Alloys

This is an injectable flux recommended for use with hypo-eutectic silicon casting alloys in conjunction with flux injection / rotary degassing systems.

Hypo-eutectic aluminum is an alloy that contains silicon less than 11% (~9-11%) and are not affected by the sodium content of the flux. This flux works exceptionally well where the controlled addition rate is minimal and constricted by a relatively short degassing cycle. It is an ideal additive for the metal caster that maintains critical specific gravities because of its ability to not only maintain certain levels but also increase levels.

Sodium Modifying Fluxes

For hypo-eutectic alloys containing silicon, addition of sodium or strontium results in a modified silicon structure that brings about improvement in mechanical properties (tensile strength or elongation) and castability. In modified alloys casting shrinkage during solidification is dispersed instead of localized in large cavities. Sodium modification is also very effective in the prevention of shrinkage porosity.

Temperature Range

  • Recommended operating temperature for this flux is to be above 1325˚F (718ºC) for optimum results in both metallic reduction in dross and good scavenging ability throughout the treated melt.

Physical Properties and Product Blend

  • Pyroflux 310 is a beige-white power flux containing sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium silicofluoride, potassium sulfate and calcium fluoride.
  • It has the addition of potassium sulfate to support higher temperature applications. It allows the flux to fire in alloys pouring at higher temperatures
  • Due to the presence of sodium, this flux is designed for alloys not affected by the sodium content of the flux.

Quality castings begin with proper fluxing practices. Contact your Pyrotek Sales Engineer to determine the appropriate flux for your operation. 866-Pyrotek (866-797-6835)
