Premium Transfer Device for Low-pressure Diecasting
In the low-pressure casting process, metal is dispersed from a single riser tube into multiple cavities, with a feeder box used to deliver the metal into the various moulds.
Feeder Box Challenges
Feeder devices have traditionally been steel box structures or cast iron housings, lined with calcium silicate board, or boxes constructed from machined calcium silicate blocks. Maintenance and replacement costs are high on these boxes due to oxide formations, sticking metal, joint faults, and cracking of the refractories.
RFM CS and Wollite Construction
To overcome these problems, Pyrotek developed a feeder box constructed from calcium silicate RFM®, a high-performance composite, reinforced fiberglass material, and Wollite backup insulation, a lightweight mineral foam material.
The assembly is constructed with a typical steel outer box and lid, a two-piece RFM lining, and Wollite as a secondary insulation. This construction provides for easy cleaning, coating maintenance, and end-of-life replacement of the RFM material. Initially a complete steel and RFM assembly is delivered to the customer, fired and ready for use. Replacement maintenance requires only a drop-in liner and backup insulation, that can be replaced on-site.
Premium Performance
The RFM assembly, in comparison with other materials, performs with virtually no oxide buildup or refractory cracking. Consequently, there is no need for the customer to open the box regularly for frequent cleaning or repair, and as a result, the service life of the feeder box has increased dramatically.
