SNIF® TD-1000

The SNIF® TD-1000 Single Nozzle Refining System is a low cost, small footprint unit that provides a nominal continuous refining rate up to 24,000 lb (11,000 kg) per hour. The system consists of an integrated refining vessel and a process control station.

The refining chamber is designed to optimize process gas bubble saturation throughout the melt to maximize spinning nozzle refining efficiency. The inlet and outlet connections are located on opposite ends of the vessel for an in-line metal flow configuration. Patented trough airlocks installed in the inlet and outlet ports allow metal to flow freely through the vessel, while preventing air infiltration, a cause of excessive dross formation.

The TD-1000 system uses an easily replaceable single piece spinning nozzle assembly that is mounted to a highly insulated cover. The refining vessel is a specially designed low heat loss refractory-lined chamber. Molten aluminium can be maintained in the vessel, without the use of a heating system, if the time between casts is short.

Additional Options

  • An alternate tilting configuration to allow molten aluminium to be drained in-line after a cast. The molten aluminium can be emptied into the launder either back to the holding furnace or forward to the casting table.
  • An integrated chlorine mixing station to allow the use of chlorine gas.
