MZR-1500 System

The Metaullics Zinkoff Recovery System (MZR) makes in-house recovery a viable option for galvanizers and other zinc processors. At the heart of the MZR is a thermo-mechanical device able to separate free zinc from material mixtures and top drosses. The MZR is a highly efficient in-house industrial system able to recover non-ferrous metal from industrial process wastes and top drosses including, hot dip skimmings and dust, continuous galvanizing top dross, primary and secondary zinc refining operations. The recovered zinc is both technically and commercially acceptable for direct reuse into the process, and any ZnO residues can be sold.

The MZR-1500 is the latest development with in-house zinc recovery technology. It has been designed and built to specifications requested by dross volume producers such as primary and secondary metal refiners and alloy producers, continuous galvanizers and large general hot dip galvanizing groups. The MZR-1500 has an increased waste processing capacity of 3300 lb (1500 kg). Heating chamber efficiency is upgraded with a 3.9 in (100 mm) thickness of low thermal mass insulation in the walls and the heating source is a system of high efficiency burners. The MZR-1500 is more user friendly, with greater ease in loading the drum.

Environmental Benefits
The European Commission Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) recognized MZR technology as the best available technique for dross waste management. In-house recovery reduces total volumes of waste for disposal, as well as reduces the amount transportation required for virgin zinc and waste products up to 90%.

Advantages

  • Reduction in the volume of virgin zinc bought at LME rates
  • No LME premium on recovered zinc
  • Low operational cost; does not require dedicated staff
  • Easy drum loading
  • Reduced volume of residual skimmings for disposal
  • Value in residual skimmings after zinc removal
