Pyrogrip

Pyrogrip is designed as a ready-to-use, air-drying adhesive to bond layers of ceramic fiber blanket or affix blankets to walls or other materials. It may also be used as an adhesive for other insulating refractory products, such as calcium silicate or vacuum formed boards.

Pyrogrip sets in about 10–40 minutes, depending on ambient conditions. At ambient temperatures it dries at medium speed. Warm conditions will speed the process. The adhesive should not be applied to hot surfaces or in hot ambient conditions above 176ºF (80ºC). Hot conditions may cause the material to gel rapidly and adversely affect the adhesive properties.

PRODUCT APPLICATION
Application of Pyrogrip is best performed using a brush or knife. Apply the adhesive to each joint face, then press the two face surfaces firmly together and allow to air dry. This basic method of air-drying provides a joint of adequate strength for a majority of uses.

Setting time can be made quicker by following normal application, pressing together the two faces as described above, then reopening the joint for a short time to allow the opposing faces of adhesive to become tacky. When tacky, press the face surfaces firmly together again.

Maximum bonding strength can be gained by heating the joint to 356–428ºF (180–220ºC) during the drying process. This heating process is not normally necessary for routine applications, but may be desirable for special higher strength applications.

APPLICATIONS

  • Blanket adhesive
  • Hard sand molds
  • General refractory adhesive
  • Core gluing and assembly
  • Broken core repair
