Tensor Series Pumps

The next generation of molten metal pumps is available from Metaullics Systems.

The Strength of Steel

Tensor pumps combine ceramic and steel with an improved design to increase reliability of molten metal pumps. Traditional graphite pumps must be rebuilt about three times per year when the graphite posts become oxidized or broken. By replacing the posts with a stronger material that won't oxidize, the life of the pump has been extended to more than a year. Fewer rebuilds mean lower costs and less labor to maintain pumps.

This new patented technology is centered around a high temperature alloy steel rod loaded under tension. The Tensor rods hold the ceramic posts in compression to maximize their strength. Fragile ceramic sleeves are no longer needed to protect graphite posts from oxidation and abrasion. Ceramic sleeves can also hide post oxidation which could result in unexpected failures. Not only are the ceramic posts stronger than graphite, if they do break, the base is still supported by the steel rods.

A Stronger Base

Although Metaullics L-series pump bases are warranted for a year, Tensor pump bases are even stronger. The holes in the base are much smaller which means that less material needs to be removed during manufacturing. The base, like the posts, is also loaded in compression for maximum strength.

  • Designed to last a year between rebuilds
  • Replaces graphite posts with ceramic and steel
  • The best way to circulate or transfer molten aluminium today

Economics That Can't Be Beat

Tensor pumps are the most economical molten metal pumps available. With a reasonable initial cost, predictable parts usage, and low energy requirements, Tensor pumps cost less to operate than other mechanical pumps. And when a pump does need maintenance, it can be pulled out of service and replaced with another pump quickly, minimizing the impact on production.

Take the Guesswork out of Pump Life

Although the posts are designed to last a year, they eventually will fail. Another unique feature of Tensor pumps is that they provide a visual indication when there is a failure. The Tensor® rod in the failed post "pops up" to tell you its time to rebuild the pump. When the pump finally does need to be rebuilt you'll see another advantage of Tensor pumps - there are no structural cement joints. The pump is completely bolted together and it can actually be used right after assembly. No more waiting 24 hours for the cement to cure.

Easy to Upgrade

Tensor pumps use standard L-Series motors and shaft and impeller assemblies. In fact, upgrade kits have been developed so it's easy to convert your existing L-Series pumps to T-Series. Use your existing motor and motor mount with an upgrade kit and you have the latest in molten metal pump technology.

A Full Range of Pumps

Tensor pumps are available as transfer, circulation, and gas injection pumps, so whatever your need, Tensor has a solution. Flows range from a minimum of 100 pounds (45 kg) aluminium per minute for the T-10 to over 43,000 pounds (19.5 metric tons) per minute for the J-50.

Tensor pump models include T-10T, T-18T, T-25T, T35T, T-35SD, T-35SDX and T-45CGI.
